Can parrots eat plain yogurt?

Caution

A small taste is OK — flavoured yogurt is not.

Verdict
Only in small amounts
Amount
A pea-sized amount of plain, unsweetened yogurt, rarely.
Safer swap
Egg

Why

Fermentation reduces lactose, so plain yogurt is better tolerated than milk. But it is still dairy fat and sugar. Sweetened or fruit yogurts add unnecessary sugar.

What to watch for

Signs that the amount was too much:

  • loose droppings if overfed

What to feed instead

If you were reaching for plain yogurt, egg gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat egg?

How much is too much

A pea-sized amount of plain, unsweetened yogurt, rarely.

Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
