Why
Plain bread is not toxic, but it is refined starch with salt. It displaces real food and offers no micronutrients. Mouldy bread is a separate and serious risk.
What to watch for
Signs that the amount was too much:
- weight gain
- reduced appetite for real food
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for bread, oats gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat oats?
How much is too much
A thumbnail-sized piece of plain bread, rarely. Never mouldy bread.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
