Why
Nut butter is extremely calorie dense and can stick in the beak and crop. Many brands add sugar, salt, palm oil, or xylitol, which is lethal.
What to watch for
Signs that the amount was too much:
- sticky beak
- weight gain
- crop impaction
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for peanut butter, almonds gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat almonds?
How much is too much
A smear the size of a grain of rice, used to hide medication.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
