Can parrots eat citrus fruit?
Caution
Small amounts are fine — too much acid upsets the crop.

- Verdict
- Only in small amounts
- Amount
- One or two small segments, occasionally.
- Safer swap
- Kiwi
Why
Citric acid in large amounts irritates the crop and digestive tract. Vitamin C is not a problem at fruit levels; the acidity is. Many parrots dislike the taste anyway.
What to watch for
Signs that the amount was too much:
- crop irritation
- loose droppings
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for citrus fruit, kiwi gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat kiwi?
How much is too much
One or two small segments, occasionally.
Treats and fruit should stay under roughly 20% of the daily bowl. The rest is pellets, leafy greens and a good chop.
