Can parrots eat chocolate?
Toxic
No — chocolate is toxic to parrots in any amount.

- Human snack
- Verdict
- No — do not feed
- Safer swap
- Blueberries
Why
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, both methylxanthines. Birds metabolize these very slowly, so even a small piece can cause seizures and heart arrhythmia. Dark and baking chocolate are the worst.
What to watch for
If your parrot has eaten any amount, treat these as urgent:
- vomiting
- hyperactivity
- tremors
- seizures
- rapid heart rate
What to feed instead
If you were reaching for chocolate, blueberries gives you the same job — a treat the bird will actually take — without the risk. Can parrots eat blueberries?
